CHANGES TO THE WORKWEEK AND BENEFITS
BACKGROUND
1. In his National Day speech, the Prime Minister announced changes to the Workweek and various benefits for the public sector. The Civil Service has informed us of the details of these changes and we are pleased to list them in this circular. This is part of the ongoing efforts by the Government to position itself as a pro-family employer and to help its officers strike a healthier work-life balance.
FIVE-DAY WORKWEEK
2. Subject to ensuring that existing service standards are not affected and that there will be no reduction in the total number of working hours (with the exception of that for the Technical Support Officers [TSO5]), the SP will adopt a five-day workweek.
3. I am pleased to inform you that through negotiations with the AUPE (SP Branch), the working
hours for the TSOs Will be changed from 44 hours to 42 hours per week. With the change in working
hours for TSOs, the claim for part-time work in preparation for classes in the evenings will be limited to
15 mm.
4. Staff will be allowed to opt for the following Work schedules:
Monday to Thursday 0800 to 1730 hrs or 0830 to 1800 hrs
Friday 0800 to 1700 hrs or 0830 to 1730 hrs
To ensure that classes are open for 8.00 am sessions, schools and departments are given the liberty to make variations to the Working time as necessary.
